The Next Step

Published by tomg at 10:24 pm under The Journey to Financial Independence Edit This

Ok now I am ready to take the next step.  In my last writing I gave you an intro to my life and my search.  As you know (if you read the last entry) I have been laid off, had my position eliminated, and laid off for lack of work in the last 4 years.  And this all in an industry where it is not really supposed to happen.  I have over 20 years installing advanced and highly protected computer networks.  I have made over 100,000 dollars in a couple years, just at the peak of my experience, my abilities, and my talents, and people just could not see my value…..  OK, so that is the way we are taught to think, the way I did think, that You can bee good at your job making lots of money for your employer (I generated over double my pay and benefits) and I really thought I was almost untouchable.  So much for my manly pride…

So what to do next?  I have learned a hard lesson, one I hope you learn a little faster than I did.  If you count on anyone else, an employer, a commision structure, a quick road to riches, you will be disappointed.  The best route is to create what I referred to last time as multiple streams of income.  Money that comes to you from more than one direction, so when one fails you (and it will) you have a second or third straem to catch up the slack.  Does this take disapline?  Does it take time?  Does it take research and talking to other people?  The answer is Yes, Yes and Yes

I had three requirements when I was looking for my oppurtunity: 1) it has to be something I would use (and I have been using it for over 3 years) 2) it has to be something tha does not require a hard sell. I am not one to randomly start conversations with strangers and 3) I have to be proud of what I do, make sure it helps others as well as my self.

I will write more about what I have found. If you are interested here is a link that will allow you to see what I am doing and allow you to send me questions through e-mail.

My New Answers
I look forward to hearing from you.

Next Time I will write more about why this makes sense for me.
